*SCT means Standard Completion Time
Aims
1) For your child to be able to repeat familiar words and everyday expressions as they look at them.
2) To increase their vocabulary by introducing 306 words.
Instruction notes – throughout the level
General notes
Sit your child in front of or next to you and guide them on a face-to-face basis.
The abilities of students who are studying Level 7A vary greatly but bear in mind that your child is only expected to repeat words (7A 1–140) and sentences (7A 141–200) after you.
Have your child look at the words as they say them. By doing this, he/she will build stronger connections between spoken words (e.g. /sne k/) and their written form (e.g. ‘snake’) and gradually learn to recognise words.
Check out the guides below on how to proceed.
Repeating words and sentences
Always model read to your child using a clear voice while moving your finger smoothly across the words. When this is not possible, your child can listen to the supplementary CDs instead. Be sure to request these if needed.
When using CDs, students should look at the corresponding worksheets, rather than the CD Texts, as they listen and repeat.
If your child is not yet able to repeat after you, they can just listen and point to the words. Moreover, if your child isn’t confident enough to repeat after you, say the words and sentences together.
Have your child maintain a brisk pace so they can complete at least ten worksheets in one sitting. Writing their name and the day’s date for them, reading the instructions on the first worksheet (sides a & b) only and refraining from tick or stamping the check boxes will help your child to solely focus on the repeating exercises.
